It was overly meta with an excessive amount of author commentary and footnotes. It really seemed like the author was trying to make sure everyone knew how funny she was. I’d rather she spend time adding more substance to the book.
If it wasn’t for that. I would have rated this 4 stars because I did enjoy the Agatha Christie style of the murder mystery, where all the people on vacation together are suspects. This is the first book in a series, so I just hope the writer takes some feedback in and tones down the commentary. I would consider giving the author another shot to see if that improves in future books.
