The Favored Child

2 stars

I wanted to read the second book in this trilogy despite disliking the first book. I wanted to see the legacy of the family redeem themselves and see how everything is hopefully made right.

Given that I’ve read so many of this authors books and really only hated that one, it was not unreasonable to hope for this.

The first half or so of the book is good and heads in a nice direction, the characters are all pretty likeable except the boy Richard.

But things can’t be just allowed to work out. Several of the characters make choices that just don’t seem likely in order to create chaos in the storyline. Other conflicts are just there for the sake of adding conflict. You really like the main character and want things to work out for her so it can be depressing to read at times.

I also found several plot points too similar to the first book, making it feel like lazy writing.

I dont know if i dare read the 3rd book.
